Knitting Pattern Cat Toys

Cats and knitting go together very well. Many older people love to knit and it's just catching on with the younger generations. There are many things you can knit and if you have a pattern or two, it can be a lot of fun to knit cat toys. Knitted cat toys are usually small projects that can be done in just an hour or two but can bring your cat a great amount of joy and entertainment.


One of the easiest and most common types of knitted cat toy is the simple catnip bag. These are knitted using small gauge to ensure the catnip doesn't fall out all over the house and can be made in about an hour. You can choose the colors, size, shape, and whether or not it has little “tails” hanging from the ends or not. You can stuff them with polyester and catnip and then they are ready to go. Cats love playing with these bags and the catnip can send them into a frenzy. This is a great project for those new to knitting or if you just don't have time for something larger.

Another common cat toy is the knitted mouse. It doesn't really look like a real mouse but is mouse shaped with a long tail hanging from the end. These take just an hour or so much like the catnip bags and your cats will absolutely love batting them around. You can fill them with simple polyester or add a little bit of catnip for added fun.

Knitted cat toys can usually be made from scraps you have laying around so you won't have to go out and buy yarn specifically for these projects. It's a great way to use up all of your extra stuff in a creative way.

Many craft stores sell books full of knitting patterns just for pets and you can find some very cool ideas in these books. The Internet is also a great place to find patterns. Simply put in “cat toy knitting patterns” into your favorite search engine and you should come up with all kinds of results.
